Think about your week and you can probably fill up half of this page with instances of when you thanked someone. Based on that, I could quit writing this blog because you are regularly thanking people that help you out. Did you include your spouse and family members in your list? Part of my goal for my writing is for you to learn from my own experiences. You do not see me talking about corporate executives or business icons and what they have done. I talk about what I have done because you can probably relate to that more.
I was horrible about saying thank you to the ones closest to me. I do not know if I just assumed that they knew how much I appreciated what they did. It may be that what they did was just expected behavior and did not need any special recognition. You can not tell your spouse "thank you" too many times. Maybe, if I would have learned this lesson earlier in life, I would not have a couple of ex-wives. Maybe it is not too late for you.
Think back to your list again. How many times did you mention your staff and fellow team members? Once again, we have probably fallen short. We get so wrapped up in the daily tasks that we tend to take people for granted. Some of our best team members do extra tasks for us all the time to help us meet our deadlines and goals. The better they are, the more we just expect top notch performance. I spoke to a person recently that had to work on Saturday to cover for someone else's work. It was not the fact that they had to work on Saturday that offended them. It was the fact that they did not even get a thank you.
They are two such easy words that just flow together. Thank you. Why is it so hard to make it a routine at work to say it? Saying thank you to your team goes far in building the relationship that you have with them. Having that relationship is what keeps teams together for years. Who do you need to thank?
Have you thanked God lately? He has provided for so much in my life. I am truly blessed. I personally try to thank Him throughout the day as I am aware of what He does for me. I remember hearing a phrase that goes "What if you woke up tomorrow with only what you thanked God for today?" What an eye opener.
Thank you to all of you, my blog subscribers and readers. I appreciate the support that you have given me in my new adventure in writing. Your continued feedback helps me out tremendously.
