Have you ever worked with someone that had a temper? If you have not, then you must not have been aware of your surroundings. Too many people cannot control their temper. I do not know how much is because they always have to be in charge. It maybe because they have too sensitive of feelings and if someone upsets them, they have to "get even". You see this in spouses as well as co-workers. One of them upsets the other and now they start yelling at each other.
You need to learn to control your emotions and not get swept up with what the other person is doing in the heat of the moment. It is contagious if you are not careful. One person starts to raise their voice and it is easy to raise our voices back. Now, throw in profanity and it escalades quickly. No good will ever come out of this situation. In the work environment, this should not be tolerated. I do not allow my staff to talk to each other that way. I also monitor my vendors that interact with them. If there is an issue, I will step in and put an end to it.
You can do this without anger, profanity or a raised voice. Stay calm and professional in your own behavior and it will sometimes calm them down. If it does not, then it is time to excuse yourself from the conversation. Do not let their behavior infect you and make you act like them. I have worked with some outstanding teams over the years. I have also seen how one hot head in the group can bring it down. You do not need them on your team. They are like a bad weed that will grow and take over the flower bed if you are not careful.
Next time that you have the desire to retaliate against someone who hurt you with their words, take a deep breath and think about what you are about to do. There is no good that will come out of you retaliating. What have you done recently to keep your anger under control. Comment below to share with the rest of us. We could use the encouragement.
