This is from the parable of the bags of gold in the Bible. As you read the Bible, sometimes it speaks to you in different ways each time you read it. Here is how I am interpreting this verse tonight as I write this. All of us have skills/talents and they are as individual as we are. I am nothing without God. I believe that He has given me all of my talents.
He has entrusted me to use these talents for His glory, not mine. As I use these talents and people see Him through me, He will give me more. With my skills and experience, comes responsibility. There are things that happen in my life that I sometimes wish would not have happened. As a friend put it this week, " A bad season does not make a bad life." I need to use these bad experiences to help others going through the same scenario.
Have I confused you with going from talents to bad experiences? Our life experiences give us the skills that we can use for God's glory. My major bout with depression years ago will come in handy now in helping a friend that is suffering as I did. At the time, I would not have thought that this was a talent. I have decided to share my depression story and the skills that I have learned along the way to living stress free in my new book, "Stress Free Living". I want to use my experiences to glorify God and help others.
I think back to high school and college and the thought of writing a short story or term paper. I was terrified. Writing, to me, was as much of a fear as public speaking is for others. I would never have thought that I would be a published author. As I have tried to serve God with what He has given me, He gives me more. I want to use these new talents to serve Him even more.
What are your talents? How are you using them and are you giving God the glory for what He has done in your life? I would love to hear from you.
