Philippians 4:13 simply states that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. So why do we settle for less than our potential? It is because we do not really challenge ourselves.
Dream big and challenge yourself to accomplish it. Once you establish a big goal, you need to break it down into smaller steps. Concentrate on achieving the smaller goals and the big goals will happen. When I started running two years ago, I could barely run one mile. I initially only decided to complete a half marathon, not run the full distance. I was perfectly happy to run/walk it and just finish. It was not a big enough challenge to really reach my potential.
After completing it, I decided to see what my body was capable of doing. I started running for two miles and walk, run two miles and walk. Each time that I would go for my run, I would try to go a little bit further before walking. It was a small goal, but 6 months later I was able to run the full 13.1 miles in the St. Louis half marathon. I could have settled for less than my potential and kept run/walking but I decided to challenge myself.
Next week, I will be running in my 2nd full marathon at Disney World. I never had an interest or thought that completing a marathon could be possible for me. It took challenging myself to make it happen.
What are your goals for 2015? How much will they push you out of your comfort zone? If they are too easy, we tend to not focus on them enough and fall short. There is not enough motivation for a difference in our lives to keep our focus. Your goals maybe health related, financial, or wanting to do more volunteer work in the community. Set strong enough goals to make a difference in your life or the lives of those around you in 2015.
Approach 2015 with the right attitude. Thank God daily for what He is doing in your life. He plays an active part every day and sometimes we do not realize it. I believe that the more we appreciate what He does for us, the more He will bless us. It may not be reality, but the more you are aware of your blessings, the more that you feel that you are blessed.
Do not limit your potential. Keep pushing for more out of your life. Someone approached me recently and asked how she could figure out her passion and purpose in life. You do not find your passion/purpose. It finds you. Do what you enjoy doing and keep pursuing your dreams and God will direct you to what His will is in your life.
